In doing so, the movie sends a pretty important message: you always don’t need a hero (or heroes) to save the day. And they do succeed in urging the citizens of New York to join hands, sing and banish the personification of evil from the world. As the Ghostbusters learn that only optimism can defeat the slime and Vigo, they plan to inject some positivity into the people of the city with the help of the Statue of the Liberty. That said, since it is ultimately a Ghostbusters movie, Reitman ends it on a pretty positive note. And Government officials responding to that by having them arrested and sent to a psychiatric hospital so that their voices cannot disrupt the upcoming elections. It shows our proton-pack carrying heroes questioning the authorities about the deteriorating state of the city and even going to the extent of asking about their importance as a voter. The second one’s more explicit (and carries over from Ghostbusters). The stream of negativity is fueling an old guy (Vigo), who has a history of causing mass murders, thinks he is some kind of a God and wants to take over the world by implementing his archaic world-view. Alright, here’s the first one (I have full faith that people will figure out the connection here on their own). ![]() In addition to this dollop of social relevance, Ghostbusters 2 offers two instances of political relevance.
